According to reports from the New Zealand newspaper The Dominion Post, Peter Jackson is quietly working to adapt the Mortal Engines fantasy novels for the screen. The new project is said to be in early stages of development. A spokesman for Jackson did not deny the project was on the books, but said "any comment should come from Peter." Jackson was unavailable for comment. The fantasy books would be the latest in a series of adaptation projects Jackson has taken on.
Meanwhile, "The Lovely Bones" premiered in Wellington two weeks ago, but Paramount aiming for the winter audiences has moved the wide release of the film to January after a limited run to qualify for the 2009 Oscars.
